Philip Stroud
Eur Ing BEng (Hons) CEng MICE MIStructE
Managing Director
Philip is the Managing Director of Stroud Associates, which he founded in 2000. He is a Chartered Member of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers, as well as an Accredited European Engineer, and holds a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of Sheffield.
With seven years of on-site experience following graduation, Phil has contributed to a variety of high-profile civil engineering projects, including the nuclear submarine base at Devonport Dockyard, commercial developments in Birmingham, and a major valley bypass in South Wales.
Phil’s office-based career began in 1983 with a respected Structural Engineering Consultancy in Bedford, before establishing and leading a regional office in Suffolk. He specialises in resolving complex issues through lateral problem-solving, a key aspect now embedded in the company’s ethos.
Phil is committed to continuing professional development (CPD) and investing in the latest technologies and techniques to enhance the firm’s capabilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions for every project.
Thomas Stroud
BEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE
Director
Thomas is a Director at Stroud Associates and a Chartered Structural Engineer, holding a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham. He began his career in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, working on the design of residential and commercial high-rise reinforced concrete structures that contribute to the city’s skyline.
Since joining Stroud Associates in 2018, Thom has led the design of medium-large residential and commercial developments, as well as the refurbishment of historic and listed buildings. Well-versed in the design of all major structural materials, he has a strong interest in integrating new software, technologies, and design procedures into his work. Thom specialises in large-scale 3D modelling and finite element analysis.
In addition to his technical expertise, Thom is committed to problem-solving and collaboration, working closely with clients and the design team to deliver efficient, practical engineering solutions. He also leads the company’s sustainability initiatives, ensuring that sustainable practices are incorporated into every project.
Sean Frostick
BTEC GMICE
Associate Director
Sean is an Associate Director at Stroud Associates, holding a BTEC HND in Civil Engineering Studies from Kingston Polytechnic. He began his career working on the surveying of the A11 Bypass for Barton Mills before gaining extensive experience over the next two decades as a Precast Concrete Designer/Draughtsman, Software Engineer, and IT Manager. He joined Stroud Associates in 2007, bringing a broad skill set in structural and civil engineering.
An experienced drainage design engineer, Sean specialises in using MicroDrainage and Causeway software to develop compliant drainage designs, Flood Risk Assessments, and Drainage Strategies. He has contributed to multiple large-scale projects, applying his expertise in site drainage and road layout optimisation. In addition to his drainage and highway design knowledge, Sean has extensive structural engineering experience, with a particular focus on the use of precast and prestressed concrete in construction projects.
William Brammer

Senior Engineer
Will is a Senior Engineer at Stroud Associates, having joined the company in 2012 after graduating from Anglia Ruskin University with a degree in Civil Engineering. With extensive experience across the domestic and commercial sectors, he is known for his diligence, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Will excels at providing practical solutions to complex engineering challenges. His expertise spans temporary works and formwork design to the restoration of historic timber frames. Proficient in drafting, Will is leading the integration of Revit and BIM into the company’s processes, driving the adoption of these technologies to enhance collaboration, accuracy, and project efficiency.
Laurence Pannell
MEng GMICE
Senior Engineer
Laurence is a Senior Engineer at Stroud Associates, holding a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Portsmouth. Since joining the company in 2017, Laurence has developed a broad range of experience, working on projects including Passivhaus design, historic Grade I and II Listed buildings, barn conversions, and large-scale commercial steel frame developments.
Specialising in retaining wall design, Laurence is proficient in the use of WALLAP design software and has a keen interest in geotechnical engineering. Currently working towards Chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers, Laurence is committed to delivering efficient and practical engineering solutions to real-world challenges.
With a collaborative approach, Laurence enjoys working closely with designers and contractors to ensure smooth project delivery and high-quality outcomes.
Claire James
PA/Administrator
Claire is responsible for overseeing office administration at Stroud Associates. She works closely with the Directors and Engineering Team to ensure the efficient coordination of work projects and site visits.
As the main point of contact for the business, Claire manages calls and enquiries, facilitating clear communication and ensuring timely responses from the relevant team members. Her organisational skills and attention to detail contribute to the smooth operation of day-to-day activities within the company.
Anna McGregor
Bookkeeper & Credit Control
Anna manages bookkeeping and credit control at Stroud Associates. She holds an Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (CIMA) and is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).
She began her career at a local firm of chartered accountants, gaining several years of experience in auditing, accounting, and risk management. She then moved from practice into industry, primarily within the construction sector, including nine years in the role of company accountant at a regional building and civil engineering firm before joining Stroud Associates in 2022.
With strong problem-solving skills, a logical approach, and a keen eye for detail, Anna ensures accurate financial records and efficient credit control processes. Her highly organised approach supports the firm’s financial stability and operations.
Micky & Winnie
Office Canine Consultants
Micky & Winnie are the resident office Springer Spaniels at Stroud Associates, bringing both a sense of calm and energy to the workplace.
Micky – Senior Snoozing Engineer. With years of experience in structural stability (preferably in a cozy bed), Micky specializes in stress testing soft furnishings and conducting rigorous snack viability assessments. Her laid-back approach provides a reassuring presence in the busy office environment.
Winnie – Junior Dynamic Load Analyst. An expert in high-speed motion studies, Winnie is particularly skilled in chasing laser zappers and testing the coefficient of friction on office floors. She also oversees visitor engagement and workplace morale, ensuring an optimal balance of productivity and play.
Together, Micky and Winnie are valued members of the team, contributing to the office culture and reminding everyone of the importance of well-timed breaks.
